Some
2400 years ago, in Ancient Greece, the philosopher Plato started
his academy, a school in a garden
environment. The Roman civilisation brought to us the term
'campus', meaning a grass field or pasture. Those historical
elements were part of the sources of inspiration for the THIERRY eco-campus project. It was
in the summer of 2004,
when our graduate school was still located in Brussels, that the concept of a small
outdoor campus was introduced. Six years later it became the
ecological campus.
The eco-campus
is an ongoing venture with gradual
enhancements, and is part of the school's Year 2025 vision
implementation. The
garden and its mansion,
also called the Outdoor Academy Ardennes and
The Thierry House, have been put at the school's disposal by special courtesy of
the owners. The
entire site has become the eco-campus,
as an extension of the
multiyear environmental project initiated in 2010.
In line with the school's operational structure, investment
policies, and principle of affordability of leadership studies, the
campus' operating
costs and expenditures are financed by other means than
those that would originate from the apportioning of tuition fees
from students.
