Some
2400 years ago, in Ancient Greece, the philosopher Plato started
his grove academy; it was a school in a garden environment. The
subsequent Roman civilisation brought us the word 'campus', which originally
means
open field or pasture. That historical legacy was one of the
sources of inspiration for the THIERRY eco-campus project. It was
in the summer of 2004,
when our school was still located in Brussels, that the concept of a small
outdoor campus was first introduced. Six years later it became the
eco-campus. It is also an ongoing venture, by its further
envisioned plans for the future.
The site,
which has been
placed at the school's disposal by special courtesy of its private owners, is
also called the Outdoor Academy Ardennes and
The Thierry House. Both have been integrated into the eco-campus,
along with its multiyear environmental project initiated in 2010.
In accordance with the school's operational philosophy and investment
policies,
in which the affordability of leadership studies prevail, the
eco-campus' operating
costs and structural expenditures are financed by other means than
by the possible apportioning of a share of the programme tuition
fees of students.
