The types of programmes and curricula
The TERRA programmes are taught programmes, of the blended learning type, and with a research component. While most courses and compendia, and all of the workshop are practice-oriented, the curriculum requires a practice-ground. This may be the programme participant' s professional activity, or another and pragmatic research environment.
There are four curriculum-level and pertaining certifications:
- The curriculum leading to a Certificate in Environmental Leadership, composed of at least seven course units including the final project paper.
- The curriculum leading to a Special Diploma in Environmental Leadership (S-DAL, nine course unit requirements), for persons who hold an undergraduate degree (possibly a master's degree). In the S-DAL programme, which includes portions of the DAL programme, the curriculum is personalised (partly tailor-made).
- The curricula leading to the Graduate Diploma (DAL, ten course units, master's level), or to the Postgraduate Diploma (PALS, fourteen course units, post-master's). Both curricula are also offered in a dual track option, leading to a master's (M.A.) or a doctoral (PhD) degree, and in both cases with a focus on Environmental Leadership.
Distance learning and guidance (e-coaching)
For the course units offered in online-based distance learning, the asynchronous mode applies. The programme participant studies individually, at his/her own pace, within an overall timeframe of completion of the courses. The language of instruction, course materials, and (e-)guidance and coaching is English (the guidance can also be offered in French or Dutch, or bilingual).
Residence requirements (special seminars)
In the DAL + MA, the S-DAL, and the PALS + PhD programmes there is at least one residential course requirement. The length of the residences varies, from three to ten days per year or per programme. The course location is either at the THIERRY eco-campus, or at the school's affiliate institute in France. In either case the participant travels to the course location in Europe. A third possibility is that the course takes place in the participant's country of residence, but only if at least four participants meet (including from neighbouring countries). In that case the school's senior faculty member travels to the chosen location.
Partly or fully tailored programme
Considering that in the TERRA programmes a number of courses (>list) can be made-to-measure, the course units of the curriculum will be agreed with and provided to each programme participant individually.
In the TERRA the possibility is also offered to attend a fully tailor-made programme, through DR Leadership, and in accordance with the school's SIRIUS approach for the design of personalised programmes.
